{"id":818,"date":"2017-08-20T13:21:51","date_gmt":"2017-08-20T13:21:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/francoontrial.playloud.org\/?p=818"},"modified":"2018-09-21T16:32:37","modified_gmt":"2018-09-21T16:32:37","slug":"shadows-of-the-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playloud.org\/francoontrial\/en\/shadows-of-the-past\/","title":{"rendered":"Shadows of the past"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Available as VOD\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.playloud.org\/archiveandstore\/en\/live-word-series\/172-shadows-of-the-past-film-streaming.html\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Synopsis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The event &#8220;Shadows of the Past \u2013 Franco&#8217;s Heritage in Spain&#8221; took place on October 28th 2012 in Berlin at the famous Babylon Cinema and was organized by play loud! productions, The Friedrich Ebert Foundation, The Cervantes Institute and The German Association of Spanish Teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The event was divided into two parts:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">1) Unique preview of the documentary &#8220;Franco&#8217;s Settlers&#8221;. The film portraits the small town Llanos del Caudillo (The High Plains of the F\u00fchrer) as if we were looking through a magnifying glass, reviewing the Spanish history since Franco took power until the present days. &#8220;Franco&#8217;s Settlers&#8221; is a contemporary evaluation of the figure of the dictator Franco; a discreet and calm attempt to dissect recent Spanish history and to review how some Spaniards deal with the cruel heritage of their past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The presentation of the film was strictly limited to guests invited by the above organizations and by no means a premiere because the film is not fully completed yet due to the lack of financing. The film got standing ovations and excellent press reviews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Read a few here:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8220;The screening provoked a spontaneous ovation to honor a rigorous and humorous film&#8221;.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Enrique M\u00fcller (El Pa\u00eds)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8220;Franco&#8217;s Settlers could be a very important contribution to how Spain deals with its dictatorship&#8221;.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Andreas Fanizadeh (Die Tageszeitung)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8220;Rarely a movie has been so much in sync with its times.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Franco&#8217;s Settlers puts the finger on the sore spot.&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Rafael Poch (La Vanguardia)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8220;A rigorous and emotional film. History told from the ground up.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The film has to win the GOYA AWARD.&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Sergi Dolad\u00e9 (Director of Medimed)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">2) Round table with:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez (Spanish prime minister between 1982-1996)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Emilio Silva (President of the Association for the Recovery of Historic Memory)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Carlos Castresana (Spanish Supreme Court Prosecutor)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Fernando Su\u00e1rez (former minister under Franco and member of the conservative Spanish People&#8217;s Party) was also invited but refused to attend, arguing that he could not accept that the organizers considered that Franco came to power by a violent coup d&#8217;\u00e9tat.
